HP Ships Photo Printers

Company intros inks and paper with 49-year lightfastness By Dave Nagel
Hewlett-Packard has introduced seven new digital imaging devices in its lineup, including four new photo printers and three digital cameras. The company has also introduced a new kind of photo paper that can deliver up to 49 years of lightfastness (73 years under glass).

HP says it's invested some $20 billion in its printing and imaging business for its largest consumer product rollout in its history. As part of the overhaul, the new printers, according to HP, exceed the image quality of traditionally processed photos.

The new printer models include the Photosmart 7550, 7350, 7150 and 130. The 7xxx lline features 4,800 DPI resolution and six- or seven-color printing with the HP 57 Tri-Color inkjet cartridge. The HP Photosmart 7550 photo printer allows users to preview, edit and enhance photos using its LCD screen and front-panel buttons. The 7550 and 7350 have the ability to print borderless 4" x 6" prints and support CompactFlash, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMedia and Sony Memory Stick memory cards for computer-free printing. The three printers also feature front USB ports.

The HP Photosmart 130 photo printer is a compact model for producing photo-quality, 4" x 6" prints from virtually anywhere. It features CompactFlash, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMedia and Sony Memory Stick memory card slots and offers borderless prints with up to 4,800 DPI resolution.

HP has also introduced the Photosmart 720, 620 and 320 digital cameras. The cameras range in resolution from 2.1 megapixels to 3.3 megapixels and feature HP Instant Share technology for sharing photos. They're also compatible with the optional HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock.

The HP Photosmart 7550, 7350, 7150 and 130 photo printers are now shipping. The HP Photosmart 720, 620, 320 digital cameras are expected to begin shipping this fall. The 7550, 7350, 7150 and 130 run $399, $249, $179 and $179, respectively. The Photosmart 720, 620 and 320 digital cameras will sell for $329, $229 and $179, respectively. For more information, visit
