HP Ships Designjet 50psRIP workflow enhanced by Heidelberg
For color, the 50 ps includes an internal color sensor and automatic closed-loop color calibration, automatic Pantone calibration, offset emulation, ICC profiles for Macintosh and Windows and compatibility with Apple ColorSync. It offers 100 percent SWOP coverage on HP proofing gloss, semi-gloss and matte B+ media and a six-color writing system with HP color layering technology for a wide color
gamut. It outputs 4-picoliter droplets at a 2,400 x 1,200 DPI resolution.
HP says that B-size proof take four minutes to print in "best" mode and two minutes in "normal" mode. It includes a server-based RIP and a modular ink delivery system with "long-life" print heads and separate ink cartridges.
This summer, HP will release a free option that enables remote proofing on the 50ps. It will allow users to generate remote proofing files (RPF) based on PDF and JDF standards, which include specific profiles and print settings. The files can then be distributed over the Internet and printed on any hp designjet 10ps, 20ps or 50ps printer. Wen it becomes available, the option will be a free download from HP's Web site at http://hp.register.designjet.hp.com.
At the moment, the printer supports Macintosh and Windows, though it only supports Mac OS X in Classic mode. It sells for about $3,085. For more information, visit http://www.hp.com.
