HP Revamps Printer Lineup

Offerings include new $999 color laser By Dave Nagel
Hewlett-Packard has announced a revamped printer lineup that will roll out over the next few months. The new models include inkjets, wide-format inkjets and color laser printers, including a new $999 color laser. Some of the models also include options for Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

On the inkjet front, new models include the Deskjet 450 and Business Inkjet 3000 printers. The Deskjet 450 is a compact model that delivers 4,800 (optimized) DPI, six-ink printing (with separate photo cartridge purchase), a lithium-ion battery and USB and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The HP Deskjet 450 printer is expected to be available in October for $299. The Business Inkjet 3000 offers speeds of up to 8 PPM color and LaserJet-compatible networking and advanced paper handling. The HP Business Inkjet 3000 printer is expected to be available in December for $799.

The company has also debuted two new color LaserJet printers. The Color LaserJet 2500 is HP's new $999 color laser printer. Few details were available at press time, though the model is expected to be available next month. The Color LaserJet 5500 is a wide-format laser printer that produces 21 PPM in color and offers numerous connectivity and networking options. It is expected to be available in November for $3,249.

HP has also introduced a wider-format version of the Designjet 5500. The new model supports paper widths up to 60 inches and also supports a wider range of printing materials, as well as dye-based inks and ultraviolet pigment-based inks. The printer is available now for $8,999.

Most of the printers announced will support Macintosh and Mac OS X systems.
