New models offer dual sensors for preview and full-rez scans By Dave Nagel
Hewlett-Packard Co. will start shipping four new models in its line of Scanjet scanners in August. The Scanjet 4400c, 4470c, 5470c and 5490c color scanners include two sensors (designed for sharper images) and offer a scan to CD feature.

The 4400c and 4470c scanners offer true 48-bit color depth and 1,200 DPI resolution. They include a 1,200 DPI sensor for scanning and enlarging high-resolution photos and a 300 DPI sensor to achieve fast scans of lower-resolution photos and documents. The Scanjet 5470c and 5490c are 2,400 DPI models that include both a 2,400 DPI sensor and a 600 DPI sensor. The scanners offer 48-bit color depth, a lighted adapter for scanning 35 mm negatives and slides and a 16-character LCD for selecting, scanning and copying options.

The Scanjet 5490c color scanner also includes a 25-page capacity automatic document feeder that scans eight pages per minute and allows for scanning of up to legal-size documents.

All of the new models offer USB connectivity and are compatible with Macintosh and Windows. The Scanjet 4400c and 4470c color scanners are expected to be available for $149 and $199, respectively. The 5470c and the 5490c will sell for $299 and $399, respectively. For more information, visit
