NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 06/29/09 -- Alain Lemarchand, President & CEO, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. (www.hfmus.com), today announced the creation of the Jumpstart Automotive Group, a powerful new publishing and marketing entity serving the automotive industry. Jumpstart Automotive Group will combine the leading consumer brands of Car and Driver (www.caranddriver.com) and Road & Track (www.roadandtrack.com) with digital automotive marketing pioneer Jumpstart Automotive Media. Lemarchand named Steve Wilhite, President & CEO, Jumpstart Automotive Media, as President & CEO, Jumpstart Automotive Group.
The Jumpstart Automotive Group will be able to combine the growing audience of online car shoppers from its exclusive network of premier in-market automotive publishing partners including Consumer Guide, Vehix, JD Power Autos, Shopping.com, CarSoup.com, HybridCars, CarGurus and US News Rankings and Reviews with the influential automotive enthusiasts and in-market buyers from Car and Driver and Road & Track. This will enable the Jumpstart Automotive Group to create 360-degree marketing solutions based on quality content and services that will engage and influence purchase behavior through digital, print, video, mobile, events, research and other platforms.
The Jumpstart Automotive Group structure allows the company to dedicate talent and resources towards the development of improved digital, print and other consumer products on many platforms including magazines, web sites, mobile sites, iPhone apps, etc. Advertising sales for all areas of the Jumpstart Automotive Group will be handled by the newly-integrated sales team headed by VP, Chief Revenue Officer Rob Houghtlin who reports to Jumpstart Automotive Group's SVP, Chief Operating Officer Dillon McDonald.
"The media landscape is changing both in terms of consumer behaviors and the needs of marketers to improve efficiency," said Lemarchand. "The formation of the Jumpstart Automotive Group creates a unique opportunity for HFM U.S. to effectively address both the increasing complexity of media consumption and the needs of marketers attempting to reach car shoppers and influential enthusiasts. The Jumpstart Automotive Group combines our powerful automotive assets into a new structure that allows us to intelligently invest in both our consumer brands and in our sales and marketing programs."
"The formation of the Jumpstart Automotive Group is a huge win for automotive marketers, enthusiasts and shoppers alike," commented Wilhite. "Bringing together these dynamic groups allows us to capitalize on our core strength of building fantastic marketing solutions around class-leading content. We expect the synergies from this union to benefit all of our constituents -- readers, publishing partners, and marketers."
Reporting to Wilhite, John Driscoll, VP, Group Publisher, Car and Driver and Road & Track will serve in the newly-created position of SVP, Chief Brand Officer for Car and Driver and Road & Track. He will have full P&L responsibility for those brands including developing new revenue streams and setting brand direction across platforms. Car and Driver VP, Editor-in-Chief Eddie Alterman and Road & Track VP, Editor-in-Chief Matt DeLorenzo will report to Driscoll and will be responsible for brand content development on all platforms. Advertising sales will be handled by the Jumpstart Automotive Group's integrated sales group.
"Our marketing partners are demanding programs across branded platforms," said Driscoll. "We will continue to evolve these brands to new groups of consumers via these channels, and one of the primary benefits of the newly organized Jumpstart Automotive Group is the integrated sales team led by Rob."
Lemarchand continues, "This integration of HFM U.S.'s brands Car and Driver and Road & Track into the Jumpstart Automotive Group signals that there continues to be a profound role for exceptional print content today. We believe the best way to grow print media is by offering fully integrated programs, and, through the new organization, investments will be made in people and the product to insure the continuing relevance of these strong brands."
This reformation of HFM U.S.'s automotive sector follows the creation of brand-centric structures led by SVP, Chief Brand Officers for HFM U.S. women's and shelter titles earlier this year.
"We are focusing on categories where we are leaders or in the top tier. This includes women, shelter and the motor group (automotive and motorcycling). The long term strategy is to invest in and grow these three sectors," concludes Lemarchand.
