Guilty plea in Delta flight assault; $2,500 fineMan fined $2,500 after pleading guilty to hitting flight attendant during flight to Hawaii
HONOLULU (AP) ' A 65-year-old man is expected to return to Japan after pleading guilty to assaulting a flight attendant aboard a Delta Airlines flight to Hawaii.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Song says Sohei Yamanouchi pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to pay a $2,500 fine. He's expected to return to Tokyo Friday on a Japan Airlines flight. Song says Yamanouchi's passport will be returned once the fine is paid.
A federal complaint says Yamanouchi hit the flight attendant after drinking four glasses of wine during the Monday flight.
Yamanouchi was in Hawaii to attend his son's wedding. Song says he went to the wedding after posting $10,000 bond, with a provision that he not be allowed to drink alcohol.
Through a Japanese-language interpreter, Yamanouchi apologized in court.
