Group Logic Ships ExtremeZ-IP Version 3.2

Update improves Mac-to-Windows file and print sharing product (July 20, 2004)

Group Logic, developer of best-selling network workflow software products, announced today that it has begun shipping version 3.2 of its ExtremeZ-IP file and print sharing product. This latest update offers greater stability for high-volume servers, improved utility and diagnostic functions, and a variety of other enhancements and bug fixes. ExtremeZ-IP is the only solution on the market that fully integrates both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 with Windows 2003/2000/NT Server versions as well as Windows 2003 Storage Server and Windows XP Professional. The update is free for customers who own a license for version 3.0 or higher and have an active support contract.

ExtremeZ-IP is used by thousands of customers worldwide. Since the launch of the product in 1999, Group Logic has continued to enhance the product to meet the changing needs of its customers. "As customers increase the number of users and the volume of files on their servers, they expect our technology to scale as a stable and reliable resource," said T. Reid Lewis, President of Group Logic. "This release demonstrates our continuing commitment to evolve the product with the changing demands of the market and to meet those expectations."

Included in the 3.2 version are diagnostic options that help customers more quickly identify problems and optimize performance. ExtremeZ-IP now utilizes automatic debug logs and "smart" problem detection technology to help customers better diagnose issues or conflicts within their system. Version 3.2 also augments several of the product's many utility functions with new features, including increased gathering of statistics about the numbers of connected users, volumes, and files and folders per volume. In high volume environments, this information has become essential for tracking usage patterns and planning capacity growth. A new function adds the ability to identify ExtremeZ-IP volumes with custom designed icons, providing quick visual identification of server volumes. Also included in this release are several product bug fixes and improvements in the handling of password expiration notifications and print server configuration.

ExtremeZ-IP provides a stable and compatible Windows-based file and print server platform for Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 users. ExtremeZ-IP is the only Windows based file server to support the latest version of the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) which is the preferred file sharing method for the Macintosh. The product uses the TCP/IP protocol to increase throughput between Macintosh desktops and Windows servers, while also allowing customers to eliminate the legacy AppleTalk protocol from their networks. ExtremeZ-IP supports authentication against Active Directory and is compatible with Windows clustering technology.

The ExtremeZ-IP 3.2 update is free to customers who own licenses for version 3.x or higher and who have an active support contract. Customers using earlier versions of the product can purchase an upgrade at rates that depend on their current product version and status of their support contract. Eligible customers may receive the update by emailing their contact information and license serial number(s) to [email protected] or call +1.703.528.1555 or 800.476.8781.
