Grass Valley Equipment Ensured Super Bowl HD TelecastNEP SuperShooters captures the action from Super Bowl XXXIX (February 09, 2005)
This years Super Bowl XXXIX telecast on the FOX Network was brought to tens of millions of consumers homes in the U.S. and internationally in pristine high-definition (HD) video resolution using Grass Valley brand digital production equipment from Thomson.
A long-time Thomson customer, veteran mobile production company NEP Supershooters, based in Pittsburgh, Pa., sent more than 30 employees and ten of its standard-definition (SD) and HD trucks to televise the big game from Jacksonville, Fla.
Largest Super Bowl Production Ever
This years SD/HD production might have been the largest ever. Among the Grass Valley equipment on site to cover the game--as well as the Pre game and Post game shows--was two Kalypso HD Video Production Center switchers (on board NEPs SS-18 and SS-20 HD trucks), more than 50 LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam HD cameras, in addition to a full complement of Kameleon and Gecko modular products. NEP is also using with the Grass Valley C2IP system to control the cameras from the truck.
Utilizing a single HD feed from the Grass Valley LDK 6000 cameras, the live game coverage was produced in the 720p HD format, Foxs HD format of choice, with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio for HD consumers and downconverted using a special production process to maintain a high signal quality for SD digital and analog NTSC audiences.
NEP also utilized the popular Grass Valley Model 4000 SD production switcher on board two of its trucks (SS-7 and ND-2) for the International versions of the Pre- and Post-game shows and live game feed.
