Grass Valley Announces Ignite HD, Next-Generation Automated All-Digital HD Control Room SolutionIntegrated solution brings cost-effective, streamlined operation to any-sized application (January 30, 2006)
The Grass Valley business within Thomson has unveiled the industrys first totally automated, digital, high-definition (HD) control-room solution, which combines the power and flexibility of its new Grass Valley Ignite HD integrated production system with its CameraMan HD robotic camera system and controller.
The new Ignite HD platform allows broadcasters and video production studios to efficiently and cost-effectively migrate from standard-definition to HD production, leveraging Grass Valleys new Kayak HD compact video production switcher frame. And it gives broadcasters the ability to produce more content, while fulfilling the commitment of Grass Valley to developing products and systems that adhere to a single workflow, multi-distribution strategy.
Todays announcement supports Thomsons Two Year Plan, which includes an overall strategy to help its global media and entertainment customer base acquire, create, edit and manipulate, aggregate, repurpose and package their high-value content.
Introducing Ignite HD
The new Ignite HD system features a modular and scalable architecture that enables customers to buy only what they need and grow as their operations expand. With specific options tailored to applications and markets of all sizes, the Ignite HD platform is available with one to four M/Es, up to 32 control ports, and is completely scalable from 24 to 93 video inputs and 24 to 96 audio inputs. It offers an integrated video switcher, audio mixer, and teleprompter that simplifies production?and allows a single operator to run an entire newscast. It also comes standard with the Grass Valley QUICbox programmable tactile-interface panel that provides immediate event operation. Optional video and audio panels are available for those broadcasters who want to employ a manually operated system.
Ignite HD, CameraMan HD and SHOT Director: The Perfect Trio
For the most comprehensive functionality, the Ignite HD system can be purchased with the all new fully integrated CameraMan HD robotic camera system and accompanying SHOT Director HD robotic camera controller. This powerful production package features support for multiple HD formats, a new broadcast-quality drive system, integrated high-quality HD lenses, and an optional through-the-lens teleprompter. While the CameraMan HD system serves as the perfect complement to the new Ignite HD system, it also works with traditional broadcast studios and flash-cam applications. Broadcasters using the Ignite HD platform can choose to integrate it with third-party robotics systems, such as those from Vinten and Telemetrics.
Third-Party Newsroom Support
The Ignite HD platform supports an end-to-end digital news workflow via its integration with both third-party newsroom computer systems such as iNEWS and ENPS and Grass Valleys Aurora digital news production workflow technology. This integration gives operators real-time status of producer rundown changes, automated CGs, and video clip status for playout. The Ignite HD system also integrates well with CGs, still stores, and video and audio servers, as well as closed captioning systems.
Pricing for the new Ignite HD platform starts at $150,000 (129,995); it is scheduled to be available at the end of April 2006.
About the Ignite System
Featuring a targeted family of scalable systems for small-, medium-, and large-market applications, the Ignite line of integrated production solutions is the first and most complete link between the control room and newsroom. This combined hardware and software environment lets organizations produce and broadcast live newscasts and other programs with only one or two operators?and its ideally suited for professional audio video applications, as well.
