GigaPix Studios Brings on Key Talent

Studio continues to expand staff (July 06, 2005)

GigaPix Studios, an independent animation production company, has expanded its staff with the addition of three key members, according to John Savage, president of the studio.

Paul Ghezzo has been brought on as modeling supervisor. Ghezzos early background includes the creation of historical and science fiction practical effects, props and set pieces. For the past six years he has been working in digital effects, creating and managing content creation for episodic TV and commercials, film, video games, and stereoscopic IMAX. Ghezzo has worked for Netter Digital Entertainment, Foundation Imaging, Ring of Fire, Zoic Studios and Digital Domain. . His credits include several high-profile commercials for Nextel, Lexus, Goodyear, Accenture, Disneyland, and Hewlett-Packard; ?Battle Star Galactica, ?Firefly, ?Without a Trace, ?American Dreams, as well as recent blockbusters ?The Last Samurai and ?Spiderman 2.

Ken Brilliant, character-modeling lead, is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York and worked on movies and commercials on the East Coast. Moving to Los Angeles, he worked on numerous big budget movies such as ?Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, ?X-Files: The Movie, ?Interview with a Vampire, ?Congo. Brilliant is an award-winning artist and author with two published books. He's worked with companies such as Rhythm & Hues, Digital Domain and Foundation Imaging on various television shows and commercials.

A foremost expert in the production and assembly of 3D character pipelines, Raffaele Scaduto-Mendola has been appointed pipeline supervisor. With an engineering background from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts, where he both attended and taught, Scaduto-Mendola has worked at various production facilities including DreamWorks Animation where he built the framework for a character assembly pipeline development to create and manage a large number of characters including those on "Sinbad" and "Shark Tale;" Rhythm & Hues where he learned the advantages of automation; Curious Pictures where he helped implement the rendering/job pipeline for longer format television series production; Bell-Labs/Face2Face where he developed both an automated Facial Motion capture Rig to generate talking 3D characters from lip-synch video, and create the pipeline tools and methodology in order to efficiently manage the production of animation clips. Most recently, Scaduto-Mendola was Character Setup Supervisor at Steve Oderkerk's Omation (O Entertainment), where he built and oversaw the character setup and animation pipeline to manage over 170 characters in production including those for ?Barnyard.

?We are in the process of assembling one of the finest animation staffs in order to produce feature films of the first rank, said Savage. ?We are on schedule to build a studio with remarkable talent and capabilities.
