Gesture This!

New Hand and Finger Control Coming to Autodesk By Denise Harrison
Forget the click -- just point your way through design with gesture technology from DSI Datatech. The companys multi-point touchpad, which allows you to forego the computer mouse and use your hands and fingers to control your software, will soon be integrated with Autodesk and available to the 4 million Autodesk design and engineering users.

The technology interprets hand and finger movements through pressure, position and speed of movement, provides virtual 3D camera control, object manipulation, and real- time visualization.

"Working with our technology is intuitive," said DSI President, Robert Egery, "which means that the hand movements used are natural, simple and require little thought. Simply being able to slide your fingers over a pad and bypass repetitive commands will inevitably improve productivity. By letting people do more, faster, it will be a much welcome time saver."

DSI's multi-point touchpad is the first of several models that apply Gesture Recognition Technology to a broad base of applications. DSI plans to introduce products targeted for the multimedia market initially while simultaneously expanding the technology to target biometric, engineering, financial, banking and video gaming applications. Over the past six years it has developed proprietary technology.
