Gasket Pulls An Animated All-Nighter For AICP Show

Recently completed the sponsor show open for the AICP Show in Minneapolis, MN (July 15, 2005)

Gasket, the new animation, design and visual effects company launched by Greg Shultz, recently completed the sponsor show open for the AICP Show in Minneapolis, MN. The AICP Show honors the best commercial work from the previous year. For the Minneapolis show sponsor open, Gasket combined stop-motion and digital animation to recreate a humorous look at a creative's all-nighter.

"This year's opening was the best we've ever had," says Kirk Hokanson, President of the AICP Minnesota chapter and New Technology Chair. "It was inspired and entertaining and done with such finesse."

"We definitely challenged ourselves with the approach based on the timeframe, but it was worth it," says Shultz. "Developing the concept from the ground up, and infusing it with humor and fun - we were thrilled to create the AICP Sponsor Open, even if we pulled all-nighters like the project's inspiration!"

The AICP Sponsor Open was shot on a Canon G2 Digital Camera and captured and animated at 2K resolution. The digital animation and finish were executed via Maya and flame.

GASKET is comprised of a diverse group of artisans with talents ranging from cel animation to painting to video game design. GASKET includes next generation artists Jiang "Jacky" Ke and Justin Greiner. Both Ke and Greiner herald from Shultz' alma mater MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design), with which the GASKET founder has developed a unique internship and recruiting program. Tammy Kimbler Weber is GASKET's producer and brings a wealth of postproduction and effects experience to her role at the new company.

GASKET technology includes Autodesk (formerly Discreet) flame & combustion, Apple G5 & PC workstations, with Maya, After Effects and Motion as well as a host of other design applications. GASKET is seamlessly integrated into sister company HI-WIRE's digital and high definition backbone, which includes fire, smoke, Spirit telecine with daVinci color corrector as well as complete sound and music capabilities as appropriate via BrahmstedtWhiteNoise (BWN).
