Gamma & Density To Unveil 3cP Upgrade At Cine Gear 2005Full motion preview capabilities now available for HD cameras (May 31, 2005)
Gamma & Density Co. announces its dynamic 3cP (Cinematographers Color Correction Program) on-set color correction system which debuted at this years NAB conference, will now offer full motion preview of color corrected footage.
Gamma & Density is issuing an invitation to all Cine Gear attendees to drop by their booth (#7-A) for an up-close look at 3cP and it's compelling new upgrade which allows HD and digital cinema camera image sequences to be color corrected and played back on-set as uncompressed HD or SD video streams.
G&D will be strategically close to Plus 8 Digital (Booth #7) on the Cine Gear show floor Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, at Warner Bros. Studios, Burbank, CA, where the full motion preview version of the 3cP system will be demonstrated. Plus 8 Digital, well known name in the world of film and television, will be the first camera rental company in the US to offer 3cPs on-set color correction system for Directors of Photography wishing to color correct, save and send images to telecine during or after shooting.
Marker Karahadian, President of Plus 8 Digital, says ?We have been working with Gamma and Density for some time. Now that that our customers are demanding color control from set to film output, we are very glad were able to offer a highly-evolved technology like 3cP. This is a system that is elegant and straight forward. It is clearly the leader in usability and effectiveness.
3cP, is a precise and complete solution that addresses the specific workflow used in television and feature film production. Developed by cinematographers for cinematographers, 3cP introduces a de facto standard by bridging the gap between DPs and the telecine and DI colorists to enable the cinematographers vision to be communicated more accurately to the colorist. By virtue of a patented chart and software, 3cP brings a concept of unification or a unified standard between the set and distribution.
?We view this as introducing a vision or concept of our service to the industry, not merely selling tools, explains Yuri Neyman, DP and CEO/Founding Partner of Gamma & Density Co.. ?What were demonstrating is an Images Control System a working concept of a unified standard that allows the DPs vision to translate to screen. It happens to be achieved through this portable, user-friendly package that delivers exacting results. Our latest update to 3cP adds full motion previewing of corrected footage. Corrections initially made on still images, can be applied to motion footage and played back as real time motion footage for review.
3cP will be a featured product in the ASC sponsored Cine Gear Expo Master Class Seminar entitled ?From Pre-Visualization to Meta Data to be held Sunday, June 5th. The seminar will explore the implementation and use of metadata as a crucial partner in the process of retaining the cinematographers conception from shooting through post production; illustrating that digital cinematography and digital finishing of film, open more possibilities and provide far-reaching creative control options. The seminar will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in Laser Pacifics state-of-the-art screening theater to show results and workflows in a critical environment. 3cP will also be discussed at the Below the Line Expo, Saturday, June 11th in their ?Constructing the Digital Pipeline panel.
Invented for his own use as a DP, Neyman, along with G&D VP and Co-Founder Sacha Riviere, developed 3cPs integrated Telecine Color Control Chart to eliminate the guesswork for DPs in their communication with colorists. This new post production standard ensures uniform calibration of all input and output devices between the system and post production facilities and is recognized by DPs in over 30 countries. The 3cP package for film and video consists of an input device and software, bundled with a laptop with display expressly calibrated for use on film and HD productions.
3cPs very practical, user-friendly interface returns control to the cinematographer without requiring extensive knowledge of color science, remarks Sacha Riviere. ?Scenes are color-corrected on-set within minutes, providing instant on-screen results that reflect the DPs big-screen vision. When completed, 3cP color-corrected images incorporating descriptive metadata, are forwarded to the post facility via the Internet or on CD-ROM. The colorist receives images color corrected by the DP with all pertinent metadata. The metadata describes all the changes made on the set in terms the colorist will understand. With the DPs choice of look defined, the colorist can quickly and efficiently deliver video dailies and a first pass of DI that is extremely close to DPs vision.
