GSX Ensures Vital Multi-National Contacts for PwC South AfricaNew Case Study Details How GSX Helped Provide Reliable Lotus Notes and Domino Access for Remote Consultants in Seven South African Countries (November 29, 2011)
BUFFALO, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/11 -- GSX [www.gsx.com], the global leader in proactive, consolidated monitoring and analysis of enterprise collaboration environments, today announced publication of a case study detailing how GSX helped PwC South Africa provide reliable Lotus Notes and Domino email and application access for remote consultants in seven South African countries.
PwC South Africa employs 47 Domino servers to facilitate communications among 2,500 users based in Johannesburg, and another 3,000 users based at 20 remote offices. Since PwC consultants spend most of their time working on-site with their clients, reliable remote access to email and applications is critical to maintain contact with clients and colleagues, and to work on audits, proposals, and taxes.
Key challenges for the support team were to replicate data to remote sites in a timely manner, to keep field consultants abreast of the latest information, and to ensure remote access to email and applications at their base office. Every hour of downtime represented potential losses of tens of thousands of dollars.
After assessing a number of products, the PwC IT support team chose to use GSX Monitor to proactively monitor key databases and ensure that they are replicated in a timely manner. Using the Database View facility, alerts were set to notify the team when expected response times or replication cycles are not met. GSX Monitor also monitors mail routing, pending mail, dead mail, log files, and disk space. A key advantage of GSX Monitor is that it can effectively monitor WAN connectivity, to determine whether a server or network is down. GSX Monitor also automated administrators' reports on trends, capacity, forecasts, and impacts, including the availability of Domino systems outside of the IT infrastructure. The net result is improved efficiency and reduced overhead.
"We reviewed other products but many were overly complex, and very expensive with high management and resource requirements. GSX is easy to configure, cost effective, and scalable. GSX knows Domino. With targeted alerts and reports they rapidly get to the heart of the problem and save administrators hours of trial and error trying to configure and consolidate hundreds of statistics." - David Preston, PwC Southern African Notes Manager
