Fuji Announces New FinePix Cameras

F700 to have 6.2 megapixel resolution By Dave Nagel
Fuji Photo Film today announced two new models in its line of FinePix digital cameras. The models include the F410 and the F700, which offers a resolution of 6.2 megapixels. Both models are expected to be available in the spring.

The FInePix F700 uses Fuji's new Super CCD SR (Super Dynamic Range) technology to deliver images with up to 6.03 million recorded pixels (2,832 x 2,128). The CCD used in the process records 3.1 million "large pixels" with high sensitivity to light and 3.1 million small pixels with a high dynamic range (four times the range of Fuji's previous Super CCDs).

The camera is actually targeted toward consumers, offing a range of automatic features. But it also includes manual controls. Features include a 3x optical zoom and 2.2x digital zoom; exposure modes and manual functions; automatic ISO equivalents of 160 to 400 when the LCD is on and the flash is off; manual ISO equivalents of 200, 400, 800 and 1600 (when resolution is fixed at 1 megapixel); Three color modes; and movie recording with sound.

The FinePix F700 will come bundled with an NP-40 battery, USB/AV cable, hand strap, 16 MB xD-Picture Card, AC power adapter/battery charger, picture cradle, FinePixViewer 4.0 and ImageMixer VCD for FinePix 1.0 software. The camera will be available in the spring for $599.95.

Fuji has also unveiled its forthcoming FinePix F410, its first model to use the new Super CCD HR. Like the F700, the F410 uses a 3.1 megapixel CCD to record approximately 6 million pixels, for a total effective resolution of 2,816 x 2,120. This model is also targeted toward consumers and offers movie recording with sound; videoconferencing capabilities and various automated shooting features.

The FinePix F410 will be bundled with an NP-60 lithium-ion battery, USB cable, shoulder strap, 16 MB xD-Picture Card, AC power adapter/battery charger, FinePixViewer 4.0 and ImageMixer VCD for FinePix 1.0 software. The camera will be available in for $499.99.
