As was written by M(r)s Harrison, (see article), people want a game they can turn on and play. EQ/SOL has ceased to be that game.
Since SOL debuted daily patches are the NORM. So if you play in the wrong time zone (specifically Australia and far east) sorry for ya.
Verant has a long history of being "anti-customer service." Why do you think they took down their message boards? (This does not mean that they don't scour various class boards looking for items to 'nerf' - they do)
Tech support channel (one and ONLY 1) is full. ALL day. Time for a response? 4 hours or so. I don't know about you - but I would rather be PLAYING than responding to the latest patch.
Want to call? Be prepared to pay. That's right no 1-800 number. More CS for ya.
Test server? Don't make me laugh. Test server is a normal production server with fewer people and more spawns.
Well then who tested SOL?
Good question. The answer? Fires of Heaven and Afterlife - two "uber" guilds whose members have enough dedication, equipment and most importantly TIME to separate themselves from the rest of the normal players.
Afterlife REQUIRES you to have a DSL or better connection to apply to their guild.
SOL was an expansion that is a direct result of DAOC. From horses to customizeable characters DAoC led the way and Verant (Sony) is trying to improve.
I'd make a comment about the loss of players, but the braintrust at EQ hid server populations abotu 3 months ago. Hmm, wasn't that about the time DAoC went live?
