FreeWarranty.com Survey Reveals 89 Percent of Shoppers Want Free Extended WarrantiesTwo Thirds of Respondents Say Cost Has Stopped Them From Getting Extra Protection; Savvy Consumers Joining FreeWarranty.com in Droves (December 14, 2011)
WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 12/14/11 -- FreeWarranty.com, the world's first website to offer consumers free extended warranties on more than a million products, commissioned a national survey that found 9 out of 10 respondents would jump at the chance for a free extended warranty. More than 20,000 savvy shoppers have already done so, joining FreeWarranty.com since its official launch in mid-November to get the extra protection they want for free.
Of the 1,005 Americans polled for this survey, cost led as the major factor (66 percent) for why shoppers opt out of extended warranties. More than one-third of respondents (35 percent) have never purchased an extended warranty, and one in five say the aggressive in-store sales pitch turns them off.
FreeWarranty.com overcomes the cost barrier and sales pitch to provide extended warranties for free on select products purchased through retail partner sites. In the week between launching and Cyber Monday, more than 10,000 shoppers joined the site. Membership has since doubled -- more than 20,000 users now take advantage of the site's comparison shopping and free purchase protection.
"The high cost of an extended warranty is the number one reason consumers opt out and risk paying to repair or replace their new TV, camera or appliance. But if money wasn't a factor, it'd be an easy decision for the majority of consumers to take the extra protection," said Tom Forrest, CEO and Founder of FreeWarranty.com. "By partnering with top retailers, we've been able to take away an extra expense and give shoppers what they want: low prices and the peace of mind that comes with a free extended warranty."
"It's exciting to see that FreeWarranty.com can add an extra value for our customers without adding to their purchase price," said David Redlich, co-founder of ReStockIt.com -- an Internet Retailer Top 500 company. "Integration was simple, and the growth of FreeWarranty.com certainly shows that this is something consumers want. I'd be surprised if all of the strong online retailers aren't partnering with them soon."
FreeWarranty.com features over one million products from dozens of the leading online retailers. "We are constantly adding new products and new retailer partners," Mr. Forrest said. "This week products from three of the nation's largest retailers will be added to FreeWarranty.com, adding even more shopping value to their super low prices with the offer of a free extended warranty."
FreeWarranty.com's shopping process is simple, intuitive and reliable:
- Shoppers who visit FreeWarranty.com can search for specific items or browse product categories. They can compare prices from the participating retailers -- listed from lowest to highest -- along with reviews of the products and stores.
- Shoppers then click through from FreeWarranty.com to buy the item from the retailer they choose.
- Once the order is completed, FreeWarranty.com sends the shopper an email to register their free extended warranty within 30 days.
- After registration, the warranty remains on the shopper's FreeWarranty.com account for easy tracking and one-click access to redeem. There's no need to hunt for receipts, UPC codes or warranty paperwork.
FreeWarranty.com's survey, conducted in an online omnibus by ORC International, polled 1,005 American adults December 8-11, 2011.
