Free Eval of Argon 3D Modeling Available

Engineering-Quality Product Offers Wireframe/Surfacing/Solid Modeling, Supports Exports To Engineering and Animation Packages Including Pro/ENGINEER and Maya (October 23, 2001)
Ashlar-Vellum Inc announced a free beta evaluation of 3D modeling tool, Argon. From now until November 30, 2001, Argon can be downloaded from the Ashlar-Vellum Web site (, enabling anyone involved in precision animation, engineering, or illustration to experience the softwares full-featured and intuitive capabilities.

Argon enables precision modeling of complex objects with engineering-quality results that can be exported to advanced engineering software such as Ashlar-Vellums own Cobalt or products such as SolidWorks, UGS Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor, PTC Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics. Argon also exports to VRML, Macromedia Shockwave 3D, Viewpoint, and other 3D Web and animation formats, making it a front-end companion to such well-known Web-development and animation tools as Macromedia Director, Adobe Atmosphere, Alias|Wavefront Maya and NewTek Lightwave 3D.

Argon enables users to create advanced freeform surfaces and solids, and offers classic Vellum 2D/3D freeform wireframe integration. Vellum Drafting Assistant, another exclusive Ashlar-Vellum feature, provides intelligent snaps and alignments in X, Y, and Z axes.

Capable of performing surface analysis, organic NURBS surface modeling, and true solid modeling, Argon is a complete creative product that also supports advanced photorealistic rendering. The software supports advanced animation including flybys, walk-throughs, Object VR, and Panoramic VR; it also accepts imports from, and creates exports to, virtually all common 3D and 2D formats including ACIS SAT, PTC Granite One, UGS Parasolid, IGES, STEP, DXF, DWG, Adobe Illustrator and more.

The free, full-feature Argon test-drive is available to the public without restriction until general release of the product. To obtain the software, interested parties should visit the Ashlar-Vellum Website ( and follow instructions for obtaining instant download links and extended beta trial registration codes. Beta trial periods can be extended through the end of 2001 if desired. For those who cannot easily download Argon, a CD version is available for evaluation at a price of $5.00. Ashlar-Vellum is also encouraging comments or suggestions for Argon through an online automated response mechanism and on-line forum located at
