Frank Fillipetti, Phil Ramone, Elliot Scheiner, Chris Fogel Get Digital with Euphonix

(November 08, 2001)
Euphonix hard disk recorders, converters and consoles are being employed by prominent engineers, artists and producers, including Frank Filipetti, Chris Fogel and Elliot Scheiner.

Frank Filipetti has had some time to listen to his R-1 recording from Elton Johns concert at Madison Square Garden last December which yielded the album One Night Only: The Greatest Hits Live. Phil Ramone produced the album.

?The R-1 is a giant step in hard disk, high-resolution recording, Ramone exclaimed. ?It was a great way to go! Filipetti liked what he heard so much, that he just purchased his own 48-channel R-1 recorder. Recently, Filipetti has been using the R-1 to record Korn at Conway Recording Studios in Los Angeles.

Filipetti commented on the R-1, ?I did some listening tests with Korn and they really liked the sound. It does sound better than any other digital multi-track recorder Ive heard so far. And its really easy to work with in the studio, which I appreciate from digital technology.

David Hough, Audio Director for Austin City Limits commented, ?The System 5 has performed really well for us, the Buena Vista Social Club segment turned out great.

Hough continued, ?The System 5 is really easy to use. In fact, when we were mixing Richard Thompson, his engineer Simon Tassano who had no previous experience with the System 5, watched me intently as each mix progressed. He inched his chair closer and closer to the sweet spot, and by the end of the session he was mixing the last song himself! All just from watching me.

Elliot Scheiner also liked using the R-1 on his Van Morrison Moondance DVD-A remix, ?The R-1 is a great machine -- there is no question about it," Scheiner says. ?It sounded great. The digital was clear and crisp. Overall it was a really good experience. It was very easy to work with.

Chris Fogel, engineer extraordinaire of the landmark Alanis Morissette album Jagged Little Pill, has been held up at Front Page Studios in LA mixing the new Morissette album titled Under Rug Swept using the FC727 digital format converter and Pro Tools with Euphonix A-to-D converters and CS3000 console.

Fogel says of the Euphonix sound, ?Ive been a fan of Euphonix equipment for almost 10 years. In fact, ?Jagged Little Pill was mixed on a CS2 console. Im still using the CS along with other Euphonix gear like the FC727. Its great to have such good sound on a Pro Tools system by using the Euphonix analog converters, they really do sound better than anything out there. I mixed the latest Alanis Morissette album with them.

Fogel has also been working on Seals latest opus Togetherland. Seal himself has a studio with a Euphonix CS3000 analog console. Now hes also using his Pro Tools system with the Euphonix FC727 and Euphonix digital to analog converters.

The R-1 Multi-track Recorder is a 48-channel digital hard disk recorder with full 24-bit 96 kHz recording across all tracks. The FC727 Digital Audio Format Converter connects multiple formats of digital audio devices together to create the highest quality conversion including connecting directly to Digidesign Pro Tools without intermediate digital conversion. The FC726, which contains all of the model 727 digital conversion features except the Pro Tools interface, is available at a lower price point. The CS3000 console combines analog audio with advanced computer controlled mixing features. The System 5 Digital Console is a digital audio mixing system designed for the highest digital sound quality with full support for 24-bit 96kHz audio. The control surface offers instant familiarity and ease of use for experienced engineers.
