France 3 Installs Accom Affinity(September 13, 2001)
"Rugby Magazine" is broadcast on France 3 Sud the regional public network for the south of the country on Saturday afternoons, and "Rencontres a XV" is aired nationally on France 2 during Sunday evenings. Both channels are part of France Television, France's public network.
Because of the very short production deadlines as the weekend's sporting news unfolds, Accom's AFFINITY was a natural choice for the job. As editor Paul Sicard explained: "We work through Saturday night on news from the day's matches and the show goes out a few hours later. We don't have a lot of editing time, so AFFINITY's real-time performance is a big hit!"
AFFINITY'S Abekas DVEous technology allows Sicard to maintain a fast-moving workflow without waiting for effects to render. AFFINITY's powerful and flexible interface and productivity features such as Clip Stacking and efficient video audio and key clip handling, make it ideal for meeting short deadlines in sport and news production. "We cover around seven stories on Saturday night, with the journalists in the studio keyed in over the material with AFFINITY's keyer, and the mixing and the credits are also done on the system."
France 3's identity is based on a 10 degree diagonal and graphics designed to convey the impression of fluidity and movement. When Sicard's team were looking for an editing system for the rugby coverage, ability to deal efficiently with the requirements of the graphic identity was decisive: "We do a lot of DVE work and AFFINITY was the only NLE that could do the 10 degree wipe with pictures. We tried all the major editing systems but it was too complicated to do the effects and we were waiting 45 minutes for some of the effects to render. With AFFINITY's DVE effects like the combined wipes and zoom outs we do are simple to set up."
