Foul play suspected in Maine girl's disappearancePolice: Foul play is now suspected in disappearance of Maine toddler from dad's home
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) ' Two weeks after a Maine girl went missing, investigators are now saying foul play is suspected.
The police chief in the central Maine town of Waterville said Friday night that the case of 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds "has evolved from the search for a missing child to a criminal investigation." Investigators say they're not giving up on hope that the youngster will be found.
In a statement, Chief Joseph Massey said investigators' conclusion about Ayla's disappearance was based on evidence that has been gathered over the past two weeks, but he didn't elaborate.
Ayla's father, Justin DiPietro, told police he last saw her when he put her to bed the night of Dec. 16. He reported her missing when she was nowhere to be found the following morning.
