Formac Ships Updated Devideon DVD Burner

New version comes with Devideon x.2 authoring software By Dave Nagel
Formac has updated its Devideon FireWire-based DVD burner. The new model is based on Pioneer's A-105 drive, which boosts burn speeds to 4x. It also includes a new version of Formac's DVD authoring application, Devideon x.2.

Formac's new software includes several new features, including new drag and drop capabilities, as well as customizable tool settings. It also includes improved performance and can write multiple chapters to MPEG-2 simultaneously. It can record up to six hours of video on a single DVD. The new version also adds the ability to create Super VCDs.

The drive itself offers DVD write speeds of 4x (5.2 MB per second), DVD-RW rewrite speeds of 2x (2.6 MB per second) and DVD read speeds of 6x (7.8 MB per second). It can also read, write and rewrite CDs.

The new Devideon drive and software are available now for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. They require a FireWire-equipped Macintosh G4 or G4, including iMacs, iBooks and PowerBooks. Users of the previous version of the software can download the new version free from Formac's Web site. The drive and software combo sells for $399. For more information, visit
