Formac has started shipping its new Studio DV, a device for converting analog video to DV and back. Studio DV uses the Mac's built-in FireWire port, which also powers the unit, and offers a variety of analog inputs and outputs.

Studio DV is uses DV hardware and a native DV codec (25 megabits per second) to convert analog video to DV at 720 x 480 at a maximum of 30 frames per second. For video, it offers composite and S-video inputs and outputs.

For audio, the device includes stereo RCA jacks for input and output. It supports two channels of 48 kHz audio at 16 bits and 44.1 kHz at 16 bits.

Studio DV comes equipped with a FireWire cable and a port for connecting the optional external power supply (offered separately for $29). It supports Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, as well as WIndows. It's available now for $289. For more information, visit
