Formac Revamps Studio DV/TV

New audio, TVR features available through software update By Dave Nagel
Formac has launched a new upgrade program for its Studio DV/TV, a digital video and audio converter that also combines a TV tuner with recording functions. The upgrade program allows current users to enhance their hardware through a downloadable software update. The download is available now.

The upgrade includes two enhancements to the Studio DV/TV. First, it adds a new version of the Studio TVR software, which features new iMovie 3 preferences. These preferences allow the user to adjust audio and video settings for optimal recording quality. It also includes an iMovie remote control for tuning the receiver directly within iMovie.

Second, it also includes new Audiomaster software, which allows users to record audio in the DV format. It includes three digital audio modes for recording qualities up to 48 kHz at 16 bits.

According to Formac, all users of the Studio DV/TV who have an EPROM version 1.06 or later can update their software through a free download. Users with earlier versions can upgrade for $49. (The paid update includes labor and parts for the hardware upgrade and a software CD.) Formac STudio DV/TV's full software suite runs only in Mac OS X. For more information, visit
