FormZ 4.0 Coming in Late July

Modeler to gain Mac OS X support By Dave Nagel
Auto-des-sys says it will introduce FormZ 4.0 in late July. The new version of the 3D modeler will include a host of new features, including Mac OS X support. Auto-des-sys is also planning to release FormZ 3.9.1 in early May and 3.9.5 at the end of May. According to the company, those purchasing FormZ starting April 25 will receive 4.0 as a free upgrade when it's released.

The big news, though, is version 4.0, which will gain Mac OS X native support, including support for multiple processors for RenderZone 4.0. Other new features will include:

  • Scripting using a simplified C-like interpretive language that allows users to write new or extend existing operations from within the formZ environment. Scripts can be edited and changed and attached to formZ icons or menu items.
  • Extensive set of NURBS, in addition to other types of objects.
  • Point cloud threading.
  • Lights in symbols.
  • Sketch rendering.
  • Network rendering using TCP/IP locally or remotely.
  • Plugin development using C and C++.

In the meantime, Auto-des-sys says it will release FormZ 3.9.1. According to the company, the patch will fix "irregularities" in release 3.9 that have been reported by users. The patch will be available as a download from the Auto-des-sys Web site in early May.

Version 3.9.5, expected by the end of May, will include several new features, including the ability to use the application's hardware key while running in Classic on top of Mac OS X, though the program won't gain native Mac OS X support until the 4.0 release. The new USB kkey will also work on Windows systems.

Separately, Auto-des-sys says it is also extending its Family Plan subscription by four months owing to delays in sending out regular updates. Current subscribers will automatically have their subscriptions extended. Those signing up for new subscriptions or renewing their subscriptions between April 22 and the release of 4.0 will get a 16-month subscription for the price of 12 months.
