Focus Intros FireStore FS-3

DV disk recorder mounts directly to professional cameras By Dave Nagel
Focus Enhancements today introduced its forthcoming FireStore FS-3, a DV disk recorder. It's designed to mount directly to most professional-level DV cameras to provide instant access to footage from NLEs. It's expected to this this summer.

Focus had previously developed the FIreStore DR-DV5000, which was targeted specifically to JVC professional systems. The new model expands the range of compatible devices, including models from Sony, Canon, Ikegami, Panasonic and others that offer a DV video input/output port and either an Anton Bauer, V-Mount or NP-style battery system. According to the company, smaller camcorders are supported with battery mount adapters. It weighs approximately 2 pounds.

The FireStore FS-3 includes electronic shock protection, a full-featured control panel, a backlit LCD, four-pin XLR power input, six-pin external FireWire drive connection and a six-pin DV video input/output port. It allows video, audio and timecode to be recorded directly in native file formats to removable FireWire disk drives and supports NLE file formats such as DV-OMF, QuickTime, AVI 2, Canopus AVI, Matrox AVI and others, eliminating the need to convert files before editing.

The FireStore FS-3 includes the 40 GB FSHDD-1 FireWire disk drive, with additional drives to be available as optional modules. It's expected to ship this summer. For more information, visit
