DMN Newswire--2009-2-10--The Flash on Tap Conference today announced a newly added workshop, From Flash to iPhone, led by renowned Flash developer Keith Peters. Peters, known in the Flash community for his books about the Flash platform, currently has the #1 downloaded Flash game in the iTunes App Store. Developers wishing to improve their skills have the opportunity to learn from a leading developer in both Flash and on the iPhone by attending this workshop, part of the Flash on Tap Conference taking place May 28-30, 2009 at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Towers in Boston.
"At first glance, Objective-C is a pretty foreign language, but you'll see how each element of that language relates to ActionScript, Flash or Flex," said Keith Peters, Engineering Guru, Infrared5. "I'll show the attendees both similarities and differences between the programs and help them start writing code."
A true hands-on experience, this workshop will allow attendees to walk away with a real application they can run on their own iPhone or iPod touch. During this one-day workshop on May 28 at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Peters will cover Objective-C language, Cocoa, Interface Builder and some OpenGL ES. Attendees of the workshop will need a Mac with the free XCode developer tools installed. To run iPhone applications on personal iPhone devices, attendees will need to apply to the iPhone Developer Program at http://developer.apple.com/iphone.
"Flash has yet to make it to the iphone, but that hasn't stopped some of the best known Flash developers from tackling the platform," said Chris Allen, Flash on Tap Conference Program Developer and Infrared5 CEO, "I think that mobile devices like the iPhone are really the future, and the sooner that designers and developers get on board the better. It's an absolutely amazing piece of technology including an accelerometer, GPS, multi-touch pointers, and a microphone, and there is a clear revenue model available that anyone can take advantage of now. The good news for Flash designers and developers is that your skills can easily be transported to the iPhone. Learning Objective C is really not that different than AS3."
Richard Blakely, CEO of Influxis, an Adobe Flash Media Server specialist company and co-creator of Flash on Tap, said "The iPhone is the best mini-computer ever made and another very important chapter for interactive developers. We are extremely fortunate to have an iPhone workshop that speaks directly to Flash developers right from some of the best in our industry. This is quite an opportunity."
Peters' iPhone workshop is one of five pre-conference workshops available on Thursday, May 28th prior to the opening party at 7pm. Other workshops include Papervsion3D taught by John Grden and Andy Zupko, AS3 for Designers taught by Rich Shupe, Red5 taught by Dominick Accattato and Paul Gregoire, and an Animation for Flash workshop taught by Chris Georgenes. The conference itself will feature thirty-one speakers who share their insights, knowledge, and Flash industry experience with attendees during the 3-day gathering concluding with a closing party on the evening of Saturday, May 30th. Additional details about the speakers and presentations at the conference can be viewed on the website, www.flashontap.com.
