Fischer Edit Silences Crowds for Best Buy

Cuts new theatrical trailer now running in AMC Theaters (June 21, 2004)

Best Buy Advertising called on the talents of Fischer Edit’s Randy Kramer to cut a new theatrical trailer for the superstore that is running in AMC Theaters. The clever spot, sponsored by Nokia and Cingular, serves as a courteous reminder to the audience that noise during a film screening can be more than just a distraction for others.

“Buffalo - Silence is Golden” opens as a film trailer with the dramatic sounds and imagery of an approaching storm descending on earth. A Native American Chief narrates about the approaching winter season and the need to hunt in order to survive. Quick shots of tribesmen running in the woods, riding horseback, and creating weapons for the impending hunt are intercut with motion graphics detailing the action. Once the time has arrived, we see a hunter and the Chief slowly stalk a buffalo herd. Suddenly, the disruptive sound of a cellular phone pierces the silence. The men look at one another and turn to the movie audience, the Chief states, “It’s coming from the audience.” The hunter turns to the screen and frantically attempts to shush the sound, but it’s too late. The startled buffalo retreat, and the hunters are forced to watch as their prey has escaped. The spot closes with the motion graphics, “One phone can ruin a movie. Please turn yours off,” and the Best Buy logo.

The spot was edited at Fischer Edit by Kramer, and finished at Pac Title in Los Angeles. One of only a handful of commercials finished on film with a digital intermediate (a negative-to-digital-to-print process), Kramer collaborated with Best Buy and Pac Title through the project’s completion.
