FirewireDirect Ships Spark 800 Drive2.5-inch model offers FireWIre 800 and USB 2.0 interfaces
The Spark 800 offers dual FireWire 800 ports and one USB 2.0 port via the Oxford 922 FireWire/USB bridge. The new system features capacities ranging from 40 GB to 80 GB using 4,200, 5,400 or 7,200 RPM mechanisms. Performance varies with the configuration. The base 4,200 RPM 40 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB models ($299.95, $339.95 and $399.95, respectively) come with a 2 MB buffer and offer a 9.5 MS average seek time, 35 MB per second write speeds and 27 MB per second read speeds. The 5,400 RPM 80 GB model ($449.95) includes an 8 MB buffer and offers slightly faster read speeds of 28 MB per second. And the 7,200 RPM 60 GB model ($459.95) includes an 8 MB buffer and offers write speeds of 40 MB per second and read speeds of 35 MB per second.
The new drives each weigh in at 0.75 pounds and measure 4.9" x 2.9" x 0.5". They ship with InTech SpeedTools 3.5 with QuickBench and Integrity for Macintosh. No special software is required for installation on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X or Windows systems, and the drive is bootable on the Mac. It also includes a carrying case, AC adapter, FireWire 800-800 cable, FireWire 800-400 cable and USB 2.0 cable.
