FirewireDirect Ships FireWire 800 CardBus Adapter

New model offers FireWire 800 and FireWire 400 ports By Dave Nagel
FirewireDirect has introduced its first FireWire 800 CardBus adapter for Type II slots. The new adapter is available for preorder now, with shipments scheduled for the end of the month.

The new CardBus adapter offers two Ports, a nine-pin FireWire 800 port and an independent six-pin port for 400 Mbps connectivity. According to FWD, the separate ports are "capable of supporting up to 63 devices with no negative performance impact on the newer, faster FireWire devices while maintaining compatibility with existing cables." The FireWire 800 connector offers twice the throughput of older FireWire technologies and also offers enhancements to data integrity. The device uses the Texas Instruments OHCI-Lynx chipset.

The FireWire 800 CardBus adapter is available for purchase now for $94.95. For more information, visit http://www.firewiredirect.com.
