FirewireDirect Boosts RAID OfferingsModels get higher capacities, CD and DVD authoring options
The improvements come to the company's pithily appellated HSB Series II Professional External FireWire Storage/RAID Cluster System. The HSB Series II has been re-released with support for higher-capacity hard drives , offering a total capacity as high as 2 TB with two, four or eight 250 GB hard drives. It also gains faster faster FireWire components, including a new Oxford 911 bridge board.
The HSB Series II is available also in alternate configurations that can combine fixed and removable media in the systems' hot-swappable bays. For example, the four-bay configuration can include three 250 GB hard drives along with a Pioneer 105 DVD-R/CD-R drive for combining RAID storage and DVD authoring capabilities into a single unit.
Prices on the new systems vary widely. A two-bay bare enclosure runs $299, while a fully configured 2 TB, eight-bay system sells for $3,799. A four-bay system with 750 GB storage and a Pioneer 105 DVD-R/CD-R drive sells for $1,769. A full list of prices and configurations is available at the company's Web site. All of the HSB Series II models are compatible with Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows and come with software for setting up RAID-0 and RAID-1 configurations.
