FireWireDirect Updates Vanguard FireWire RAIDs

Vanguard II supports striping and mirroring By Dave Nagel
FireWireDirect today announced an update to its Vanguard line of external FireWire RAID products. The new systems now support RAID level 0 and RAID level 1. They're available now for all systems that support FireWire.

According to the company, the Vanguard II is the first hardware-controlled FireWire RAID system on the market. Now the models also add RAID level 0 (striping) and RAID level 1 (mirroring), as well as support for higher-capacity drives. With striping, the units can now support capacities up to 500 GB.

The new Vanguard models are available now for $1,299 for the 500 GB model (two 250 GB drives); $959 for the 400 GB model; $699 for the 240 GB model; $659 for the 160 GB model; and $399 for the enclosure alone. For more information, visit
