FilmLight and Avid To Develop DI Workflows(April 17, 2005)
FilmLight announced at the NAB show in Las Vegas that it is collaborating with Avid Technology to develop integrated colour management and colour grading workflow capabilities for post production professionals. FilmLight and Avid plan to develop a comprehensive workflow strategy that will enable customers to leverage FilmLights colour management and grading systems with Avids industry-leading nonlinear editing and finishing systems for SD, HD, and 2K/4K Digital Intermediates (DI) projects. As file based finishing and mastering have become increasingly common in the content creation industry, professionals are striving to maintain the highest image quality and by working closely together, FilmLight and Avid plan to help them to achieve that goal.
FilmLights Commercial Director Peter Stothart stated, ?Were very pleased to be working with Avid to develop a flexible and comprehensive DI workflow for our customers, while raising the bar of quality by enabling consistent, colour calibrated critical viewing at every stage of the workflow.
Working with Avid, FilmLight will focus on ways to integrate its Truelight colour management technology with Avid systems, enabling users to work in a nonlinear environment and maintain the precisely calibrated viewing environment that is customary when using the Baselight colour grading system. The two companies will explore ways to deliver a flexible, file-based enterprise workflow between the Avid DS Nitris finishing and compositing system and FilmLights Northlight scanner and Baselight colour grading system.
Peter Fasciano, corporate fellow, advance development for Avid, said, ?Professionals who work in file-based environments perform a broad range of image-enhancing tasks and its critical for every finishing suite and colour grading room to offer tools that provide the greatest accuracy for controlling colour manipulations. Were looking forward to tapping Filmlights extensive expertise in colour science to establish a standard critical viewing environment that we believe will offer the most accurate, consistent image and colour control for nonlinear finishing.
