FileMaker Ships FileMaker Pro Unlimited

Latest release certified for Mac OS X Server By Dave Nagel
FileMaker has started shipping FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited. The new release offers all of the features of FileMaker Pro 5.5, but it also allows unlimited users on the Web to access FileMaker Pro databases. Also, according to the company, the new version offers two improved Web publishing options.

The new options include FileMaker Pro Web Companion for publishing databases on the Internet (or intranets) instantly. It also includes a Java-based FileMaker Web Server Connector for improved performance on IIS and Apache servers. (Improvements also appear in the areas of load balancing and security on IIS and Apache servers.)

Other new features include:

  • Groups can create a Custom Workgroup Portal by simply using an existing FileMaker Pro database (no need for HTML coding to design a Portal layout).
  • Standard FileMaker Web navigation controls can now be suppressed, allowing developers to specify their own Web based controls using new and expanded scripting support.
  • Complete relational value lists are now supported through Custom Web Publishing.
  • FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited is now certified for Apache Web Servers running Red Hat Linux 7.1 and Mac OS X Server. The new version is also certified for IIS 5 on Windows 2000 Server.

FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited is available now for $999. Upgrades run $499. For more information, visit
