Fiber Optek, Safari Technologies Develop ITV System for Schools

Teachers Will Be Able to Remotely Call Up Programming From Satellite, DVD, Video Tape, Broadcast (July 26, 2001)
Fiber Optek, a developer and installer of fiber optic communications systems in the Northeast, Thursday announced that it has teamed with Safari Technologies Inc. of Lawton, Mich. to introduce an advanced "Video on Demand" interactive system for instructional use in the classroom.

Michael S. Pascazi, president of Fiber Optek, said the fiber optic-based system enables the teacher, using a set-top box, to remotely call up at will programming from a wide variety of sources, including satellite, DVD video tape, broadcast and others.

The first such Fiber Optek-Safari system will soon be installed for the Red Hook Central School District in Red Hook, Duchess County, N.Y., where it will provide the elementary, middle and high schools the most extensive range of video teaching resources available to schools anywhere.

Safari manufactures the electronic communications equipment for the system, while Fiber Optek will apply its 17 years of experience to construction of the network infrastructure, Pascazi said.

The Fiber Optek-Safari partnership is now offering this innovative educational resource to public and private schools throughout the Northeast, according to Pascazi.
