Feds: Ringleader of ID fraud ploy that stretched from NJ to Pacific territories pleads guilty By The Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ' Federal authorities say the ringleader of an identity theft and fraud scheme that stretched from Korean communities in New York and New Jersey to the U.S. territories in the Pacific has pleaded guilty.

Authorities say Sang-Hyun (san-hun) "Jimmy" Park admitted helping people fraudulently obtain credit cards, bank accounts and loans using illegally obtained Social Security numbers. He pleaded guilty Monday.

The 45-year-old resident of Palisades Park, N.J., and an admitted co-conspirator were among 54 people charged in September 2010.

Prosecutors say the ring illegally bought Social Security cards issued to Asian immigrants working in U.S. territories in the Pacific. Prosecutor say the ring then resold them to Korean immigrants who used them to obtain U.S. identification.
