Fatal house fire in north NJ claims multiple lives

Fatal fire in north New Jersey home that was old farmhouse claims multiple lives By The Associated Press

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) ' Officials in South Plainfield, N.J., say an early morning house fire has claimed multiple lives.

Borough Administrator Glenn Cullen says there are fatalities but officials have not yet confirmed the number.

News12 says a relative told the cable TV station that the dead include several children.

The fire began between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. Thursday in what Cullen says is a multistory former farmhouse that is over 100 years old.

All members of the town's volunteer fire squad responded.

The large home sits on a raised corner lot on a quiet suburban street of well-tended two and three-story houses.

Half of the house is completely burned out, with windows blown out and the white siding charred with black smoke.
