Fall to look like winter in Northeast this weekend

Snow on the pumpkin! Fall storm could dump more than a foot of snow in parts of New England By The Associated Press

HEBRON, Conn. (AP) ' Some people will be reaching for a snow shovel instead of a rake in parts of the Northeast this weekend.

Sections of the area are bracing for an October snowfall Saturday. A storm moving up the East Coast is expected to combine with a cold air mass and dump anywhere from a dusting of snow to about 10 inches throughout the Northeast.

The National Weather Service says October snowfall records could be broken in parts of southern New England, especially at higher elevations.

The Massachusetts Berkshires, the Litchfield Hills in northwestern Connecticut, southwestern New Hampshire and the southern Green Mountains could see the most snow.

Parts of Maine could get more than 6 inches of snow, and parts of southern Vermont could receive more than a foot.

In Pennsylvania, 6 to 10 inches could fall at higher elevations, while Philadelphia and Pittsburgh could see a coating.
