Facilis Technology Peaks Performance with New Shared File System at NAB 2008

Facilis demonstrates new directions for their collaborative shared storage (April 14, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-4-14--Facilis Technology, a leader in shared media storage technology for post-production and content creation, today announced system enhancements to its high-performance shared storage environment, TerraBlock®. At NAB, Facilis Technology will be showing its new shared file system which enables multiple clients to write simultaneously into the same volumes, offering new workflow opportunities for present and future Facilis customers.

“This new technology will improve our customer’s workflow,” stated Francis Albert, founder and president of Facilis Technology. “TerraBlock systems are collaborative shared storage, built from the ground up for high bandwidth post production. A shared filesystem in addition to new 8Gbit fiber channel connectivity later this year will round out a completely unique feature set in this industry.”

TerraBlock enhancements for NAB 2008 include:

• 8Gbit Fiber Channel: Facilis Technology continues to provide the highest performance fiber channel connectivity with 8Gbit fiber channel for intense 2K and HD workflows.
• iSCSI Module: Facilis Technology introduces faster iSCSI connectivity through two new options: 10Gbit Ethernet or lower-cost 1-Gbit link aggregation. Through these networking enhancements, as many as 10 clients can simultaneously access uncompressed video over standard networking infrastructure.
• Linux Compatibility: Facilis Technology offers enhanced Linux support for many applications, including Autodesk Smoke and Flame. The most demanding HD and 2K formats have been qualified through ATTO 4Gbit fiber channel.

TerraBlock combines intelligent drive management software with lower-cost SATA drive technology and dedicated optical fiber channel client connectivity. TerraBlock supports all Avid, Apple, Adobe and other non-linear editorial, graphics and effects applications, content creation, DI, and encoding systems on various Windows, Macintosh, and Linux platforms. Facilis Technology’s capacity and scalability options provide post-production environments flexibility that’s impossible to outgrow.

“We invested in our first TerraBlock system in 2004 and it has grown with us every step of the way,” stated Greg Light, editor with Substation K. “From the beginning, TerraBlock met our toughest workflow demands, and each subsequent upgrade continues to address our bandwidth and functionality needs, including the latest Mac OS 10.5. TerraBlock is all the storage we need to keep churning.”
