FOCUS Enhancements Now Shipping FireStore FS-4World's first portable Direct To Edit recorder for hand-held digital camcorders (March 02, 2005)
FOCUS Enhancements Inc., a worldwide leader in video production and conversion technology, today announced it has begun shipping the FireStore FS-4 Portable Direct To Edit (DTE) Recorder. FireStore's powerful DTE technology combined with FS-4's rugged enclosure and small size make it the most complete tapeless solution for field broadcast, sports, wedding and event, and education users of hand-held digital camcorders. The FireStore family leads the industry with DTE technology built into products designed for hand-held and shoulder mounted camcorders and rack mounted units for production centers.
"We are pleased to begin production shipments of FS-4 after a comprehensive and successful beta test program," said Matt McEwen, product manager for FOCUS Enhancements. "The demand and significant back-orders we have seen for this product supports our belief that tapeless acquisition and DTE Technology are quickly becoming the accepted standard for field production."
"I have been beta testing FS-4 for the last few months and have been very happy with the performance of the unit," said Chris Kamilar, an FS-4 beta tester from Bright Ideas Video in Sachse, TX. "I now have four units on order and am looking forward to the workflow improvements the FireStore FS-4 will bring to my business."
FS-4 features a 40GB (3 hour) internal disk drive, a 6-pin FireWire connector for interface with camcorders, a 6-pin FireWire connector for interfacing with a computer for editing or file transfer, a backlit status LCD display and a comprehensive set of control buttons including a navigation pad. FS-4 also supports DTE Technology file formats including RawDV, AVI Type 1, AVI Type 2, Matrox AVI, Canopus AVI and QuickTime including 24p. The FS-4Pro model, which is expected to ship in late March, adds support for the Avid OMF and Pinnacle AVI file formats, retro record modes so that a shot is never missed, user definable time lapse, loop playback, scene marking and multiple file folder capabilities. The FS-4Pro will also be available with an 80GB (6 hour) drive.
