Extensis Releases Suitcase Server X1Gives administrators total font control within a workgroup or organization (October 05, 2004)
Extensis today released Suitcase Server X1, providing administrators added control over the usage of fonts across a workgroup or an entire organization. Suitcase Server combines the control administrators require with the ease of use creative professionals demand.
With Suitcase Server, administrators have the ability to manage their font libraries centrally, manage their font licenses and compliancy effectively, and ensure all workgroup members are using the identical versions of all fonts. Suitcase Server X1 provides additional features that give administrators even more control over the usage of fonts on client desktops, further ensuring the integrity of the font libraries used by the workgroup or organization.
“Fonts are digital assets,” said Joshua Duhl, Research Director for Rich Media at IDC. “They need to be managed with the same controls as other digital assets to ensure license compliance as well as legal and accurate use of these assets.”
The new features include a series of permissions that administrators can set on an individual-user basis to control specific client features. These permissions include the ability to automatically remove all non-approved fonts, the power to save finds and the authority to override system fonts on local machines, among other controls.
By utilizing Suitcase Server X1, administrators can remove any unapproved fonts that a user may have added to any of the System Font folders. In addition, administrators can decide on a user-by-user basis, which individuals have permission to temporarily add fonts to their local Suitcase Client.
“Extensis is committed to providing the most useful and effective solutions for managing fonts across workgroups,” said Brian Berson, General Manager of Font Solutions for Extensis. “Server-based font management provides tremendous benefit to workgroups, and the new features added to Suitcase Server X1 guarantee that rogue fonts will not infiltrate a company’s workflow.”
Suitcase is the professional-level font management solution for Macintosh OS X and Windows. Its font preview options, auto-activation, corrupt font detection and repair, duplicate font management and more make Suitcase an integral part of the creative professional workflow and a must-have application for serious font users.
