Experient Health Takes On Sleep Health in Latest Blog Post(March 30, 2014)
Richmond, Va. (PRWEB) March 30, 2014
Many Americans struggle with getting a good nights rest, Experient Health wrote in the latest edition in its Living Well Blog series.
"Thinking about the things you need to get done tomorrow? Laying in the dark reading Facebook on your iphone?" Experient Health wrote. "Research has found that nearly 70 million Americans are sleep deprived and that number is steadily increasing."
Experient Health tackled sleep awareness both as part of its mission to help more of the community live healthier lives - preventative health is the best kind of insurance - and also because March is National Sleep Awareness Month.
"Lack of sleep can affect more than just the tired day ahead," Experient Health wrote. "It can lead to irritability, high blood pressure, increased stress hormone levels, increased risk of diabetes, obesity, hearty disease - you get the picture. Sleep is of the utmost importance to maintain a healthy lifestyle and balance."
Experient Health, the health insurance arm of the Virginia Farm Bureau, offering leading national insurance carriers like Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, offered ways to sleep better, like examining the foods eaten at dinner.
Among those foods that promote better sleep include milk, soybeans, walnuts and salmon.
Foods that can cause sleep disturbances include chocolate, fatty and spicy foods and alcohol.
