Exclusive: Matrox OS X Drivers Due End of MayBeta drivers for RTMac shown at NAB
In February Matrox announced that Mac OS X drivers had entered into a limited private beta stage with a "small group of RTMac users." And last week at the NAB convention in Las Vegas, Matrox told users--yours truly included--that the Mac OS X drivers would be available in a public beta form by the end of the month.
Since that time, I've been in contact with Matrox, and just today a company representative provided updated information on the Mac OS X development. When asked when the full release of the Mac OS X drivers would come, she responded, "We hope by end of May." As of press time, Matrox has not included this information in any support documents on its site or otherwise. "RTMac continues to be the only solution to offer full-resolution, NTSC/PAL previews, regardless of the power Mac G4 model," she added. "We are happy to join the ranks of manufacturers supporting OSX."
No further information was available at press time, and the company wouldn't comment on whether further Mac OS X products were in the works concurrent with the development of RTMac drivers. Of course, we'll continue to keep you updated as information becomes available. For more, visit http://www.matrox.com.
