Except for bite, most DNA excluded LA detective

Witness: Except for bite mark, most DNA excluded LA detective in killing of romantic rival By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' A forensic expert has testified in Los Angeles that her analysis of most DNA evidence in the 1986 murder of a woman excluded the defendant, former police detective Stephanie Lazarus.

Criminalist Jennifer Francis told a jury Tuesday that DNA from a bite mark on the arm of the slain woman was found to match Lazarus' genetic profile.

Under defense questioning, Francis acknowledged that blood found on walls, a towel, a speaker cord and a car key did not match Lazarus. Those items found at the crime scene tested positive only for victim Sherri Rasmussen's DNA.

Francis said saliva from the bite mark, which led to Lazarus' arrest, was in an unsealed test tube when she received it.

Rasmussen had married Lazarus' former boyfriend a few months before being killed.
