Exavio Debuts ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator at BIRTV Expo

Exavio and Jetsen to showcase ExaMax I/O accelerator in Apple Xsan application (August 25, 2005)

Exavio, Inc. will debut its ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator in an Apple production environment at this year’s BIRTV (Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Equipment Exhibition) Expo, in Beijing, China, from August 25th – 28th in the Jetsen Media Technology Company, Ltd. Booth #4002.

Exavio’s newly developed ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator transforms high definition post production and digital intermediate, into high-bandwidth, high-throughput collaborative production environments streamlined for maximum efficiency and creativity. The ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator will demonstrate greater than 1.5GB/s of bandwidth in an all Apple production environment. The ExaMax 9000 accelerator will be integrated into an all Apple Xsan storage area network solution with Apple PowerMAC G5 FCP editors supporting 4 uncompressed HD editors, 2 Motion compositing effect systems and 2 Apple Shake compositing software systems running at 2K digital film resolution. In addition, the ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator will support multiple simultaneous read and write compressed steams from FCP Apple PowerMAC G5 workstations.

Sammy Huang, system engineering manager of Apple China notes, “We are very pleased with the performance that we have seen from the ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator and consider it an excellent solution for delivering large production environments with Apple Xsan.”

Ziquan Xu, president of Jetsen concurs, “The ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator will be a great addition to our product line for solving storage bottleneck issues in high performance production and post production environments and is a great enabling tool to spearhead true collaborative workflow in digital post-production applications.”

The ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator boasts up to 5GB/s bandwidth across a fast non-blocking switch fabric to access from 128GB to 2TB of dynamic cache for instant content access and delivery. Coupled with precise, video-tuned algorithms, its dynamic cache mitigates disk contention and fragmentation issues, and provides immediate high-quality content availability with extremely low latency, even with large storage arrays. Flexible and scalable, the ExaMax 9000 accelerator can expand to thirty-six 2Gb Fibre Channel ports in one chassis to support various post production environments from real-time full-bandwidth HD to 4K digital film resolutions.

Memory modules, configured with a power-saving management system, reduce heating and power consumption. Redundant power supplies, cooling fans, smart cache backup, and UPS management provide platform stability.

A powerful, java-based management application called ExaView monitors and manages ExaMax storage virtualization and network environment through a simple, straight-forward GUI from a remote client. CLI, SNMP MIB and traps allow the system administrator additional configuration flexibility.

“The ExaMax 9000 I/O Accelerator was developed to advance post-production into a completely digital environment. It will empower production teams to become more creative and provide a truly collaborative workplace,” concludes Mike Moone, president and CEO of Exavio. “We are pleased with the results of the Apple Beijing evaluation of our ExaMax technology and look forward to working with Apple and Jetsen on future projects.”
