Ex-NYC youth minister gets 22 years in sex case

Ex-NYC youth minister gets 22 years in sex case involving 5 girls who attended his church By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A former youth minister who admitted he sexually abused five girls who attended his New York City church but then tried to take back his guilty plea has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Jeremy Fulton declined to speak at his sentencing Tuesday. Two of the girls' mothers told a judge Fulton had abused the trust of them and their daughters.

The Manhattan district attorney's office says the 29-year-old Fulton helped run after-school and summer camp programs at Mariners' Temple Baptist Church. Prosecutors say the girls were 10 to 16 years old.

Fulton pleaded guilty in April to rape. He later said he'd gotten bad legal advice and some of the girls had told other people the allegations were false.

A judge rejected Fulton's bid to rescind his guilty plea.
