Ex-NYC policeman gets 75 years for sex attack

Ex-NYC policeman gets 75 years to life for sex attack on schoolteacher while he was off-duty By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A former New York City police officer will spend at least 75 years in prison after being convicted of grabbing a schoolteacher off the street and sexually assaulting her at gunpoint.

Michael Pena received a sentence Monday of 75 years to life.

The 28-year-old was convicted in March of some of the top charges in the case, including predatory sexual assault. But the jury deadlocked on rape counts.

The woman testified that the off-duty Pena grabbed her, forced her into an Upper Manhattan apartment building courtyard and raped her last August.

Through his lawyer, Pena acknowledged attacking the woman but said he never had intercourse with her.

Pena joined the New York Police Department in 2008. He was fired after his conviction.
