EquaShip Undercuts UPS & FedEx by 26% to 88%

America's Fourth Carrier Launches Delivery Service for SMB Market (October 18, 2011)

SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/11 -- EquaShip, America's new fourth parcel carrier designed specifically to meet the needs of small to medium sized business shippers, today announced the launch of its new delivery service. EquaShip gives any shipper access to the low rates that only much larger companies can ordinarily access -- with savings of 26% - 77% compared to FedEx and UPS Residential Ground retail rates. Shippers will also enjoy 70% to 88% savings compared to FedEx, UPS and DHL international air express deliveries.

EquaShip now appears as a new fourth carrier option on the shipping screens of over two million e-commerce sellers who use one of the popular order management platforms that EquaShip has been stealthily integrating with over the past few months. Parcels shipped through will join the millions of packages already shipped each week through the same back-end delivery network that is used by Amazon and other major brand merchants today.

"EquaShip's disruptive business model was formed when shipping and retailing industry leaders -- including veterans of UPS, Amazon and DHL -- came together to create an affordable, scalable alternative to the majors. For the past 25 years since deregulation the FedEx/UPS duopoly has favored major enterprise shippers; these days charging them up to 80% less than the little guy. EquaShip took a page from the Amazon playbook, using the same ultra-reliable line-haul carriers and leveraging the USPS for the final delivery leg -- a technique also used by FedEx and UPS. The aim is to allow smaller shippers to viably compete with mega-retailers offering free shipping on the majority of their orders," said Ron Wiener, EquaShip CEO.

EquaShip has only one price table for all customers, with none of the hidden 'accessorial' fees that major carriers routinely use to inflate their billing. "We are dedicated to total transparency in our pricing and business practices. EquaShip's fair pricing policy helps to level the playing field for small businesses," says Josh Leichtung, EquaShip's Chief Marketing Officer. "Caring for our customers is our absolute priority. For instance, our EquaSurance™ offers better, yet less expensive insurance coverage than the duopoly."

Every EquaShip package includes $100 of real insurance coverage. The unique insurance program, called EquaSurance™, is a true regulated insurance product created in partnership with Online Shipping Insurance Services and backed by Lloyd's of London. While rival parcel carriers offer only Declared Value ("DV") coverage -- characterized by a multitude of exclusions and limitations -- EquaSurance covers everything that merchants, distributors and manufacturers need in order to ship with confidence.

Featured on the website is the first-ever interactive pricing map that enables customers to make instant apples-to-apples comparisons against FedEx, UPS and USPS. In contrast, the major carriers tend to make their pricing tables hard to compare. EquaShip's new pricing map gives users easy slide controls to automatically calculate potential savings under various scenarios. The EquaShip price map instantly converts competitive carriers' complex rate schedules into revealing comparisons, understandable at a glance.

Customers can find detailed pricing in the new EquaShip Pricing Handbook -- available now at the company's home page, It is filled with helpful tips for small shippers and detailed savings comparisons on shipments to any address in the US, including PO Boxes, military addresses, and 168 other countries. Also included are EquaShip's unprecedented discounted prices on the popular USPS Priority Mail® and Express Mail® services -- bundled with $100 of EquaSurance coverage -- available only through the website.

"EquaShip has pulled a brilliant flank maneuver that UPS and FedEx clearly didn't see coming. By seamlessly integrating a network of existing carriers who already move millions of packages a week for the e-commerce giants, and funnelling in smaller shippers' volumes in such an elegant fashion, they have effectively launched the nation's fourth carrier without buying a single truck or airplane. UPS and FedEx haven't had a run for their money like this since DHL Home pulled up stakes in 2008," says Frans Nelson, a pioneer in the postal/parcel industry that founded Regional Mail Express in 1994, who later sold RMX to UPS in 2001 (known today as UPS Mail Innovations).

With today's beta launch of the website, new customers are being accepted on an individual basis. Drop-off locations are being continually added nationwide to serve smaller customers -- such as the millions of small eBay and Amazon 3rd party merchants, that do not use pickup services. New customers are asked to apply for the beta program by calling the EquaShip Customer Care Hotline at (888) 501-7595 or signing up directly at
