Epson Rolls Out Photo Printers

R300 and R300M offer direct CD/DVD printing capabilities By Dave Nagel
Epson today started shipping two new models in its Stylus Photo line of inkjet printers. The new R300 and R300M are designed for direct photo printing, as well as printing from a computer, and support direct printing to CD and DVD media. Both are available now with support for Macintosh and Windows systems.

The two new printers are nearly identical in features, though the R300M adds a 2.5-inch color preview monitor to review and select images for printing without the assistance of a computer. They offer a print resolution of 5,760 x 1,440 with a six-color photo ink system (using individual ink cartridges) and support border-free printing up to 8.5" x 11", including panoramic images. And both support printing on inkjet-printable CD and DVD media.

Both of the new printers come equipped with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 interfaces for printing from workstations or peripherals and also support printing from their built-in memory slots, which support CompactFlash Type I and II, MultiMediaCard, IBM Microdrive, xD-Picture Card, Sony Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, MagicGate Memory Stick, SmartMedia and Secure Digital. They also include a control panel for selecting paper types, number of copies, layouts, manual adjustments, filters and frames without the need for a computer, plus the ability to save favorite settings. Other features include support for Print Image Matching and an optional Bluetooth adapter for wireless printing.

The Stylus Photo R300 and R300M are available now for $179 and $229, respectively. The Bluetooth adapter runs an additional $69. For more information, visit http://www.epson.com.
