Epson Releases New Wide-Format Printers

Both models include Fiery Spark RIP By Dave Nagel
Epson and Electronics for Imaging (EFI) today announced two new wide-format printing systems: the Epson Stylus Pro 5500 and the Stylus Pro 10000. Both printers incorporate EFI's RIPs, which incorporate Adobe PostScript 3 output. The 5500 comes with the Fiery Spark Designer edition, while the 10000 comes with the Fiery Spark Professional edition.

The Epson Stylus Pro 5500 with the Fiery Spark Designer RIP offers Pantone color matching, Macintosh compatibility (OS 8.5.1 through 9.x), out of box color matching and the new Fiery Spark user interface.

The Stylus Pro 10000 works in conjunction with the Fiery Spark Professional RIP and feature EFI ColorWise Pro Tools 2.0, a new color setup dialog and network connectivity that supports printing from both Mac and Windows platforms.

The Stylus Pro 10000 itself offers 1,440 x 720 DPI printing with six 500 ml cartridges (CcMmYK). It offers variable droplet technology for up to three droplet sizes per line, the smallest 5 picoliters. The maximum printable area is 43.78 inches, with a maximum printing length of 100 feet, depending on roll. Depending on print mode, it offers speeds of 25 square feet per hour to 231 square feet per hour.

The Stylus Pro 5500 offers 2,880 x 720 DPI printing using Epson's Archival Inks with droplet sizes as small as 3 picoliters (with three droplet sizes available per line). It uses fewer nozzles per head than the 10000 and supports media up to 13 inches x 19 inches. It also offers six-color printing (CcMmYK).
